Editor's recommendations: Etymotic

Etymotic aims to pursue the audiophile path of neutral, precise sound reproduction with the ER4XR. With this level of tuning, it sets itself apart from typical products in the sector. Especially in quiet listening environments, the thicker bass range serves a real strength and gives a more honest reproduction of the source media.

However, the additional design efforts are reflected in the price. This particular model costs around 400 euro, leaving it below the average of similarly complex products.

If you’re after contemporary in-ears with good sound capabilities, the ER3XR from Etymotic is the right choice for you. In spite of its amplified bass, the neutral and analytical alignment is not lost with these headphones. Existing cable noises can prove distracting, although the in-ears otherwise impress with their significant audio shielding capabilities.

The Etymotic ER3SE addresses the needs of music lovers seeking quality, with an impressively clean sound character. The manufacturer claims to create tools for professionals and this is reflected in the tuning of these in-ears. These headphones deliver an honest and unembellished sound that will impress. What’s more, wearing comfort scores highly. If you can do without the frills and features you might otherwise expect as standard, these are well worth considering.
