JBL

JBL – from cinema and stadium sound systems to studio monitors and headphones.

JBL is a major American heritage brand, part of the Harman Group, with expertise in developing consistently high-quality products. This is not any different when it comes to headphones. JBL is highly successful in the headphone market and always scores with high quality products and designs.

JBL History

JBL founder James B. Lansing first developed sound technology for cinemas in 1946. In the 1950s, smaller versions of this technology also found their way into living rooms at home. But this manufacturer has also left its mark in the live arena: Hundreds of thousands of visitors to the famous Woodstock festival in 1969 listened to the sounds of Joan Baez or The Who over a JBL music installation.

From the 2000s onwards, the manufacturer increasingly focused on wireless headphones and Bluetooth speakers to cope with the changing market. Since 1969, JBL has been part of the Harman Group, which was acquired by Samsung Electronics in 2017.

How good are JBL headphones?

JBL headphones range from very cheap to expensive. Accordingly, our test scores are mixed when it comes to sound.

However, the manufacturer shows quite impressively that sound does not have to be everything: the portfolio includes special headphones for swimming or children’s headphones with volume control to protect young ears (JBL JR300BT) as well as true wireless in-ears with noise cancelling (ANC). JBL’s Live Pro+ (to the review) score with a fun-oriented sound tuning, long-lasting battery life and versatile personalisation options via app, which means that the weatherproof True Wireless In-Ears cover a wide range of uses.
