With the Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2, the Japanese manufacturer introduces a new generation of true wireless in-ears focused on one standout feature: endurance.

Boasting up to 65 hours of playback time, the Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2 set a new record in their class. But they’re not just about stamina – they also pack powerful bass, a user-friendly app, and thoughtful features like a magnetic power toggle. Our test investigates whether their large size and relatively basic ANC compromise the overall experience.

Design & Comfort – Bulky but Premium

Right out of the case, it’s clear: the Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2 aren’t sleek or minimal – they’re built for battery capacity. The earbuds protrude noticeably from the ear but fit securely and comfortably thanks to their ergonomic design. Whether during workouts or long listening sessions, they stay put. With an IP55 rating, they’re also resistant to sweat and splashes.

The matte finish looks premium, and the physical buttons are easy to locate and offer precise, tactile control – especially handy in the rain or when wearing gloves. The charging case is on the larger side but supports Qi wireless charging and features a transparent window for status visibility.

A clever feature: the earbuds power on or off automatically via magnetic contact – simply stick them together to toggle power, saving battery and simplifying use.

Smart Extras – A-T Connect App

The “A-T Connect” app is tidy and functional. In addition to firmware updates, it offers EQ presets and a 5-band equaliser for tailoring the sound to your preference – particularly helpful given the Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2’s default bass-heavy tuning.

Another smart inclusion: users can play nature sounds or white noise to help with focus or relaxation in noisy environments.

ANC intensity, transparency mode, and button mappings can also be configured. Multipoint connections (e.g. laptop + phone) worked flawlessly in testing. We also appreciated that no account registration is needed and the app responds quickly when the earbuds are connected.

Sound Analysis – Punchy, Warm, and Full

The Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2 offer a sound profile that bass lovers will adore. Their 9 mm dynamic drivers deliver deep, punchy bass with solid impact – never too muddy or overpowering. For genres like hip-hop and electronic pop, the sound is vibrant and full of energy.

The mids are slightly recessed by comparison. Vocals and acoustic instruments aren’t overly forward but still sound natural and balanced. For vocal-heavy or classical tracks, adjusting the EQ to boost mids is recommended.

High frequencies are clean and detailed but can be slightly sharp at higher volumes. Again, the EQ provides flexibility to tame this if needed.

Surprisingly, these in-ears create a relatively wide soundstage, uncommon for closed-back designs. Live recordings and film soundtracks feel immersive and engaging – a major plus for extended listening.

The active noise cancellation is serviceable: it efficiently reduces low, consistent background noise but is less effective with speech or higher-frequency sounds. The transparency mode feels muffled and not as natural as some competitors’.

Call quality is generally good, though wind and street noise can reduce intelligibility.

Conclusion

The Audio-Technica ATH-CKS50TW2 offer an impressive all-round package for those seeking true wireless in-ears with punchy sound and ultra-long battery life. Powerful bass, physical buttons, and a solid app enhance day-to-day usability. If you can live with the bulk and don’t expect top-tier ANC, you’ll get a dependable, long-lasting companion – both in battery life and sound performance.
