Hardware
The bottom line: Barely changed in form factor, but noticeably more rugged: the protection rating climbs to IP55, the battery can be swapped by hand, and it delivers up to 40 hours of playtime at a combined 96 watts of power.
At first glance, not much has changed on the Marshall Stockwell III compared to its predecessor. At 1.3 kilograms and measuring 15 x 18 x 7 centimeters, it’s become marginally lighter and slimmer.
The protection rating has gone up from IPX4 to IP55. The Stockwell III can now handle noticeably more and can even be left outside in the rain. A new power button has been added to the brass-backed control panel. Otherwise, the three grippy dials with their LED rings still dominate, and, like the battery indicator, their brightness can now be adjusted.

The front and rear sound grilles keep the path clear for the True Stereophonic 360° sound and are replaceable. The silicone sleeve with Tolex texture can be peeled off, and the carrying strap (leather outside, velvet inside) can likewise be clipped on or off as the mood strikes.
Behind a screwed-in hatch in the housing sits the easily replaceable battery, which powers the Marshall Stockwell III for up to 40 hours. Marshall is serious about sustainability and repairability with its products.
Inside the speaker, a 3-inch woofer and two 1.75-inch full-range drivers work together, each powered by its own Class-D amplifier delivering a combined 96 watts. Around the back, there’s additional reinforcement from a passive radiator. On the side sits a 3.5 mm aux input and a USB-C port, which is used to charge the Stockwell III, supply charging power as a power bank, or receive lossless audio signals for playback.
Features and Controls
The bottom line: Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint and Auracast support, plus a five-band EQ and placement compensation in the app – though the Stockwell III is happiest being operated directly via its dials.
The Marshall Stockwell III offers Bluetooth 5.3 with the SBC, AAC, and LC3 codecs. The connection stays stable and stutter-free up to around 20 meters. Multipoint is supported, and the Stockwell III is also ready for Auracast.
In the Marshall app, the equalizer now offers five presets and a five-band EQ for customizing the sound. There’s also so-called “Placement Compensation” to adapt to the speaker’s positioning. The M button can be assigned two EQ presets, and under Soundstage, the stereo width can be adjusted. On top of that, various other settings, for example for the USB-C port or the timer, can be configured, and updates can be triggered.
Honestly, you’ll most enjoy operating the Stockwell III via its dials and buttons, which make all the key sound and volume functions tactile and immediate. But for the last mile and fine-tuning, the app is indispensable.
Sound
The bottom line: Warm, bassy, and unmistakably Marshall. Over Bluetooth, though, the sound gets a bit shrill at very high volumes – over a USB-C cable, the Stockwell III instead plays punchy and clean.
The sound of the Marshall Stockwell III stands out for its presence and power paired with a warm underlying character that’s so typically Marshall. Bassy, earthy, with a slight lean toward the mids, you get a well-defined, distinctive sound that supports and showcases both electronic and rock music well.
The DSP, in the form of what Marshall calls “Dynamic Loudness,” constantly adjusts in the background, carrying the bass along evenly whether at low or high volume, which leaves a very good listening impression. Naturally, this can also be fine-tuned further to personal taste at any time using the bass/treble dials on the unit or the EQ in the app. Turn the Marshall Stockwell III all the way up, though, and the sound gets a bit shrill and thinner in the bass, which comes across as fairly messy.
That impression vanishes instantly, however, once you stream music into the speaker via a USB-C cable (lossless). Then the Rolling Stones’ current album blasts out of the small housing in full glory, filling the room thanks to 360° sound from both front and back. Not quite as loud anymore, but exactly right.
Conclusion
The Marshall Stockwell III is a successful update to its lineup, taking the small speaker a big step forward with improved DSP, double the battery life, and lossless audio over USB-C. Sonically, this speaker really delivers for its compact size and light weight and can properly rock even larger rooms.
Everything that’s always been good about Marshall, material, feel, emotion, and usability, is found again in the third-generation Stockwell. The speaker lives up to what the brand promises.
- The Marshall Stockwell III comes in “Black and Brass” and “Cream.”
