Affordable, bass-driven Bluetooth over-ears with USB audio input and ANC

In a nutshell

The EarFun Wave Life stand out as budget-friendly Bluetooth over-ear headphones with punchy sound, effective ANC, and a versatile feature set. Cons:
  • Loose fit on slimmer heads
  • Optional sound profile is overly bass-heavy

By supporting both Bluetooth and USB connections to smartphones, tablets, or laptops, the EarFun Wave Life offer versatile use. Both noise cancelling and ambient mode are available in either mode.

Design and comfort

Weighing 257g, the compact EarFun Wave Life fold for easy storage. The swivelling and tilting earcups aid fit, but the headband adjustment seems optimised for medium to large head sizes. Those with narrower heads may find them too loose. While the closed design causes some warmth around the ears, the padding is not too tight, allowing some airflow.

Battery life

With ANC off, battery life reaches up to 57 hours at higher listening levels. Using ANC reduces this to around 38 hours. A full charge takes 2 hours 15 minutes, while a 10-minute quick charge provides up to 7.5 hours of playback (ANC off).

A major advantage is that even with a flat battery, the USB audio connection still works and retains ANC, transparency mode, and full control functions. The included USB-C cable supplies both power and audio, so the headphones charge automatically in wired mode.

Bluetooth and USB audio specs

The EarFun Wave Life feature Bluetooth 5.4, multipoint pairing for two devices, and a low-latency gaming mode for smoother audio in games and videos. Codec support includes SBC and AAC. Wireless stability was strong both outdoors and indoors across multiple rooms.

The USB audio input supports up to 24-bit/96 kHz on compatible devices, though macOS is limited to 16-bit/48 kHz.

Controls

A three-button remote plus a dedicated NC button handle playback, calls, volume, voice assistant, track skipping, and ANC mode selection. The NC button’s function can be customised in the app to enable gaming mode, redial, or toggle multipoint.

EarFun Audio app

Available for Android and iOS, the app offers 14 tone presets, 15 genre-specific profiles, and a 10-band EQ for custom settings (which can be saved). There’s also an “individual sound profile” feature, though its results currently skew heavily towards bass.

Ambient sound controls include standard ANC, wind noise reduction, and transparency mode. Multipoint and gaming mode can be toggled here, a timer can be set, and firmware updates installed. Voice prompts can be adjusted in volume.

Call quality

Speech is generally clear and well-received by the other party. AI-assisted microphones effectively reduce wind noise in normal conditions, but stronger gusts can still cause issues. Loud background sounds are reduced significantly during speech but remain audible in pauses.

Noise cancelling and ambient mode

Both ANC and transparency mode operate with impressively low self-noise. ANC adds slight bass reinforcement, giving an even fuller sound. Effectiveness is highest at low frequencies, with good overall broadband reduction for the price range. Typing noises are notably reduced, and voices or traffic are pushed into the background.

In transparency mode, announcements and conversations are easy to follow when playback is paused. However, the amplification level could be higher to better cut through music.

Sound quality

The tuning is bass-forward, aimed at fun listening. The low end can feel powerful but remains controlled. Mids are clean, spacious, and detailed, making the headphones sound more expensive than they are. Vocals, film dialogue, and podcasts benefit from the clarity and slight warmth.

Highs are present but smooth, avoiding harshness even at louder volumes. The result is a full, easy-to-listen-to presentation with a balanced character despite the bass emphasis.

Conclusion

If you want affordable Bluetooth over-ears with strong bass, flexible connectivity, and useful extras like ANC in USB mode, the EarFun Wave Life are an excellent choice. The loose fit on small heads and overly bassy “personal sound profile” are drawbacks, but for features and performance at this price, they’re hard to beat.
