Thanks to the cleverly implemented on-ear design, the MIIEGO AL4 Freedom Mini allow you to remain aware of your surroundings, enhancing safety during both sports and everyday use. They can also be folded for transport and stored neatly in the supplied hard-shell case.

Design and comfort

The neckband of the MIIEGO AL4 Freedom Mini is worn behind the ears like traditional headband headphones, ensuring a secure, sport-ready fit. Importantly, these headphones are available in two sizes: the “MINI” version for smaller head shapes, and the “AL4 FREEDOM” for larger heads. The main difference lies in the length of the neckband, which must be long enough for comfort but tight enough for stability.

Designed for outdoor training in challenging conditions, the MIIEGO AL4 Freedom Mini are IPX6-rated for water and sweat resistance. According to the manufacturer, the transport case also offers protection from moisture. The foam ear pads are replaceable.

Battery life

At higher volumes, the MIIEGO AL4 Freedom Mini achieve a battery life of 36 hours and 45 minutes. A full charge takes two hours and 15 minutes via the included USB-C to USB-A cable. Unfortunately, there is no fast-charging function.

Bluetooth specs

Equipped with Bluetooth 5.3, the MIIEGO AL4 Freedom Mini support multipoint pairing with two devices simultaneously, allowing you to connect, for example, a smartphone and a laptop at the same time. Audio codecs include SBC and the higher-quality AAC. The wireless connection proved stable, with a range of 25 metres outdoors and enough reach indoors to cover multiple rooms and even a change of floor.

Controls

On the right earcup, five physical buttons control playback, calls, volume, and track navigation. With iOS devices, you can also activate Siri. The button layout is fixed, and the headphones cannot be customised via the companion app.

According to the manual, the central multifunction button should enable or disable a low-latency mode for films and games, but this feature currently does not work and would require a firmware update.

MIIEGO App

The MIIEGO app (Android/iOS) offers eight preset EQ profiles for different music styles such as Pop, Rock, or enhanced Bass. A 10-band EQ is also available for manual adjustments, though changes cannot be saved.

Optional features include a tracking function to locate the headphones if lost, as well as a player view with playback controls, volume adjustment, and track navigation. You can also set a timer and update firmware. However, using the app requires registration.

Call quality

The microphone, located on the right side, delivers somewhat weak speech quality despite effective ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation). While the voice transmission is understandable, it lacks clarity and naturalness.

On the plus side, loud background noises are effectively reduced so that your voice remains audible and intelligible, and wind noise is mostly filtered out. Only in strong gusts does the speech flow suffer interruptions.

Sound

The MIIEGO AL4 Freedom Mini deliver a strong, tight bass that works well for sports motivation. The only noticeable shortcoming is a slight lack of sub-bass in club-style tracks.

Vocals could be more present, as they can struggle to cut through in noisy environments like gyms or busy streets. In quiet settings, voices are clear, but the midrange could be more assertive. An EQ boost in the mids can help in noisy conditions.

The treble is relatively restrained, which may suit those sensitive to sharpness but could make the sound seem a little dull. Overall, the warm, punchy profile is smooth and easy to listen to, even at higher volumes.

Conclusion

The MIIEGO AL4 Freedom Mini stand out for their environmental awareness, foldable portability, secure fit, bass-heavy tuning, weather resistance, long battery life, and multipoint support. However, call quality is only average for the price, and the lack of fast charging is a drawback.
