1More S70

Affordable Open-Ears with High Wearing Comfort

In a nutshell

The 1More S70 is an open-ear headphone offering high wearing comfort, practical features, and solid battery life. In terms of sound, it delivers more headroom and quality than its smaller sister models, but remains primarily optimized for communication rather than music enjoyment. Considering its low price, however, it’s still a practical and well-designed everyday companion.

Pros:
  • High wearing comfort
  • Practical feature set
  • Attractive price
Cons:
  • Sound quality for music listening
  • No editable EQ in the app

Available in black and white, the 1More S70 is the largest open-ear model to date from the Chinese manufacturer. Like the S30, S31, and S50 models, it is a true wireless design that uses a flexible ear hook worn over the ear, placing the driver “floating” in front of the ear canal.

The headphones come with a large charging case with a USB-C port. They feature touch-sensitive outer areas for function control and app control capability. SBC and AAC audio codecs are supported. Multipoint pairing is also included. A free app for Android and iOS is available to extend functionality.

The 1More S70 in practice

Weighing just 8.9 grams each, the earbuds are pleasantly light. They feature a titanium alloy construction that also has an attractive appearance. Wearing comfort is high, and thanks to the silicone-coated hook design, they exert no pressure. This makes the headphones sit almost imperceptibly over the ears, to the point where you may forget you’re even wearing them.

For charging, the headphones are placed into a medium-sized charging case, which protects them and significantly extends runtime with its additional battery power. While the earbuds offer around 12 hours of playtime on their own, this increases to about 40 hours with the charging case.

Charging via USB-C takes around 120 minutes, and fast charging is supported. The case has a small “window” to view the charging process, though it does not support wireless charging.

Otherwise, the 1More S70 fulfills its primary tasks well. Communication with others—whether directly or via electronic channels—is quick and reliable, keeping you “in the moment” and avoiding the isolation typical of conventional headphones.

Pairing is quick, and the Bluetooth 5.3 connection is stable. Typical use cases include mobile operation during walks, as well as home office and office work. Thanks to its IPX5 certification for water and sweat resistance, the S70 is also suitable for sports.

App connectivity

Through the app, you have access to firmware updates (test version: firmware 1.2.7) and additional functions. You can configure the straightforward touch controls, with selectable commands for double- and triple-taps, as well as activating the voice assistant via long press. Depending on the situation, this is sufficient, though not fully comprehensive, since track skipping and volume control cannot be implemented at the same time.

Interestingly, the 1More S70 only offers an equalizer with fixed presets to adjust the sound signature. You must live with the manufacturer’s preset selection, as there is no option for further personal adjustments. In comparison, the 1More SonoFlow SE HQ31 does allow such customizations.

Speech quality in open-ear headphones should be evaluated separately for sender and receiver. My call partners rated telephone quality as good. The four integrated microphones clearly capture your voice and use digital noise reduction algorithms to process it cleanly. Conversely, comprehension on your own side is always dependent on ambient noise levels. As with music playback, quieter environments deliver better results, while in loud environments—such as busy streets—the other party is harder to hear.

Sound of the 1More S70

With open-ear designs, compromises in sound quality are unavoidable. Although the manufacturer promotes the use of high-quality drivers and electronic bass signal enhancement, these designs are generally less efficient, as the small drivers are placed in front of, rather than inside, the ear canal without additional sealing. As a result, they deliver their best sound quality in quiet environments with a high signal-to-noise ratio. In louder surroundings, speech intelligibility and listening enjoyment become increasingly limited.

The sound profile of the 1More S70 is pleasant and relatively balanced. Grammy award-winning engineer Luca Bignardi was once again involved in tuning. Still, it should be clearly stated: this headphone is not intended for intense music enjoyment. Bass performance is below average; there is no deep bass, but rather lean mid- and upper-bass. Additional compromises are found in dynamics, detail resolution, spatial imaging, and impact.

Compared to smaller 1More models, however, the S70 stands out. In my view, they deliver more volume, impact, and a more balanced sound signature.

In mobile use, you will still need to run the 1More S70 at high volumes to compete with environmental noise. That said, it works well as background audio in most situations.

Conclusion

With the 1More S70, you get an open-ear headphone that combines the typical benefits of this design with sound quality and headroom superior to the smaller S30, S31, and S50 models. Functionality and battery life are practical, and wearing comfort is high. Ultimately, the 1More S70 shines most in communication rather than music playback. Nonetheless, it is a handy piece of gear—and at its low price, 1More has done a good job.
