MIIEGO MiiBUDS Action II

True Wireless sports in-ears

In a nutshell

The sound of the MIIEGO MiiBUDS Action II really convinced me. The sound didn’t just end up as a passenger during training, but immediately developed into a motivator. Many sports headphones deliver good design, but the sound often falls by the wayside. The MiiBUDS Action II, however, combine both and, as a bonus, have a very good battery life, including a power bank as well as an extremely tactile one-button control. This means they get a strong recommendation for athletes who don’t want to miss out on good sound.

The MIIEGO MiiBUDS Action II in-ear headphones are favourite workout “buddies” among the gym-going crowd. No wonder, as the Danish design team has coaxed these headphones’ set of features to give their best performance in all the right ways: tight fit, crisp sound, punchy button control. The MIIEGO team has also improved the battery life thanks to the huge battery capacity. This will keep your sound motivation going until the finish line.

Wearing comfort

The typical ear hook design is not a novelty in sports headphones. It also provides a secure grip on the MIIEGO MiiBUDS Action II, which are available in black and white. The construction of the secure earpieces hooks gently around the ear. Despite a good grip, nothing feels uncomfortable or fiddly. The plastic material has a solid stiffness but is ergonomically shaped enough not to feel uncomfortable even after more than an hour of a workout. Combined with the Comply plugs, these Sport-In-Ears fit securely in the ear. These adaptable buds greatly increase passive noise attenuation and provide a slight bass boost, unlike the silicone plugs that are supplied. The earpiece design is larger than ordinary in-ears. A button has been prominently embedded in the middle of the headphones. The pressure point is ingeniously easy to hit, even during a fast run, and much more tactile than touch surfaces. With a solid “real” click, you can switch songs or make phone calls. The speech intelligibility of the attached hands-free mics is clean and suitable for everyday use.

Sturdy charging case with the MiiBUDS Action II

As befits sports headphones, these earphones are waterproof to IPX6 standards. Rain, sweat and splashes from the shower of champagne after your trophy victory do not get through. After training, they can be stored in a larger than usual transport case. The case has a USB charging cable tucked away on the underside, so it can not only be used to charge the earphones but also as an external power bank for other devices such as mobile phones or smartwatches (via USB-A and USB-C ports).

Another very practical feature: the manufacturer has accommodated a 1,800 mAh battery here and states that you can recharge the MiiBUDS (battery 50 mAh each) up to 14 times. A full charge of these in-ears provides about six hours of playtime.

The Bluetooth connection (version 5.0) worked smoothly, and there were no dropouts. When it comes to codecs, the manufacturer relies on the tried and tested: in addition to SBC, the higher-resolution AAC codec is used.

Sound of the MiiBUDS Action II

While there is no EQ fine-tuning via the app, the overall frequency image is balanced from the off, coherent and with good stereo imaging.

These sports in-ears pumped a good amount of volume through the micro-drivers. So they are certainly suitable for fitness fans who like to listen louder. The bass had good substance and remained dynamic. Hip hop and dance tracks pushed powerfully, with clear accentuation, and they didn’t lapse into booming, but continued to kick even at potent volumes. The mids fanned out the variety of instruments in songs nicely and selectively; it was also possible to detect nuances. Guitar and keyboard sounds, for example, remained confident, clear and present. In the top end, too, the MiiBUDS Action II delivered a homogeneous result that matched the good overall sound. Of course, there is still some room for improvement compared to higher-priced models, but a pair of sports headphones must first and foremost drown out one’s own breathing.
